Man City 1-0 Arsenal: A Silva Lining

Not bad. Not bad at all. I think its this game (against Man City) which shows the magic of Arsene Wenger. How on earth is it that we are competing at such a high level against a team spending hundreds of millions a year on new players and then paying them wages that, frankly, they do not all deserve. Arsenals entire starting eleven on Sunday cost less than City paid for Adebayor, Clichy, Toure and Na$ri. We lost the game yes, but we put in a great performance and we can hold our heads high going into the Villa game. Their goal was just caused by reshuffling at the back, an unfortunate result of Djourous injury and on another day maybe it wouldn't of happened. Maybe on another day Phil Dowd won't be the ref. We can only dream. Fatty Phil Dowd continues to frustrate us. In the last seven of our games he's officiated, we've won just once. Was it a penalty? Probably and Dowd had an excellent view, maybe Frimpong slept with his wife or something. We will never know. I don't think this game was vitally important for us. Maybe it is significant to our title hopes, but for me that was never the aim anyway. Our next five league games are :
Villa (a)
Wolves (h)
QPR (h)
Fulham (a)
Swansea (a)
Now those are the perfect set of fixtures for us to get back on track. Hopefully we we can take at least 12 points from those games which will give us a boost going into January.

Once again, Chamakh and Arshavin were woeful. I say that Chamakh wasn't too bad in the few minutes he was on, but in general, Chamakh Is woeful. Chamakh is off the the ACN in January which might make it tough to sell him. Gervinho is going to the same competition, and Arshavin will probably be needed to fill in. For me, I have lost patience. Arshavin is a very talented footballer, his skill with the ball is valuable and he should/could be a valuable back-up player. Yet most of the time he wanders around looking like he couldn't give a rats a*se. In these big games when he comes on as an impact sub and we need a goal, that is not good enough, and is incredibly frustrating for fans to watch. I doubt he'll be sold in January with the ACN, but surely unless he improves a LOT, then he must go in the summer. There's the question of whether we need someone in January to play there, I think maybe we do, because in the form Arshavin is in I don't trust him to start one game let alone about five. As for Chamakh I think he's been quite unlucky. I hear he is excellent in training and clearly wants to do well, it just hasn't really happened for him. I think the most frustrating thing here is that we know he can score goals, yet the eleven he opened the season with last term seems like a distant memory now. He is a shadow of his former self and, like Arshavin, it looks like his time might be up. He has said many times that he would prefer a 4-4-2 with him playing in front of RVP. That clearly isn't going to happen and he should probably, at this stage in his career, move on to find first team football.
That means we need to strengthen in January and it seems increasingly likely that we will sign a player who can, not only play up front when Robin needs a rest, but who can also play on the wing. At first I was thinking, why would we spend 20M on backup? However I have categorically changed my mind. Back-up is vital not only for rotation but for challenging for places. At the moment we seem to have a fixed starting eleven. Imagine throwing Podolski, for example, into that mix., He would definitely play a lot of games as he would be used on the wings also. I think it is important we buy very early, with the ACN and all that.

We will be back, because we are Arsenal.

Anyway thats enough from me on a Monday morning.
Thanks for Reading.
